My favorite thing about Dr. Seuss is Thing 1 and Thing 2! I love the wild blue hair, so naturally I had to create Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes!
All you need to do is bake red velvet cupcakes in red liners, frost with white frosting, and add cotton candy for their hair!
To make the cotton candy hair, I pulled off long strips and gently pulled it apart from the sides. It is really easy to work with because it is so sticky (although it does build up on your fingers. I had to wash my hands a couple times). I pushed the piece I was working with into the frosting and kept making pulled apart pieces until the cupcake was filled. I filled in little pieces where it needed it. Then I pulled off another long strip of cotton candy and wrapped it around the bottom, pushing it into the pieces that were already there in spots so that it blended in.
The final touch was the two circles. I just typed up Thing 1 and Thing 2 on my computer, printed it out, drew circles in black permanent marker, cut out and stuck on the cupcake liners!
There is one drawback to the cupcakes...if you don't serve them soon, you'll end up with this:
At this point you might as well dump blue sugar on your cupcake...haha. This was after several hours, they don't sink too quickly...but they don't look as good after about an hour, so if you are having a Dr. Seuss party, don't decorate with cotton candy until right before!
Speaking of Dr. Seuss parties, I was thrilled to find a TON of Dr. Seuss stuff in Target's dollar section last night! I think Thing 1 and Thing 2 are the new sock monkey for me! I'm loving these things I bought...a magnet sheet, magnetic notepad (all Thing 1 and 2-LOVE IT!), and adorable badges! Perfect for your Dr. Seuss party, along with the Thing 1 and 2 cupcakes, of course!
Very clever...now why do I have to go thru so much to post a comment...two of three things! It's exhausting! Oh, I'm NOT sending you one thing for your giveaway until you post some recent pictures of MAX and I mean it! Love, Mom

ReplyDeleteSo Cute! I'm adding this to my list. I did a Dr. Seuss party back in June but I'm still saving ideas on my blog for other readers. I also did green eggs from Jello and used yellow whipped cream to make "deviled" eggs and they melted. It was very sad. Super cute!!!

Thank you for the inspiration.

These are adorable! I'm kinda scared to make them since the blue shrinks away. Trying to figure out how I can do it and serve them right away at a 3 years old party.... Anyway, (like others today that I've seen), I included them in my blog's link love today. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I can't wait to make them.
ReplyDeleteHow many did you make and how long did it take you? I want to make these for my daughter's class next week for snack and want to wait as long as possible to add the hair so it doesn't melt, but I'm notorious for running myself too short on time. How close to snack time should I start these? In your experience, so you think I could pull the tufts ahead of time and assemble them just before? I have to make 22, I think. These are soooo creative! Good job!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I made many and it was pretty quick. It was a long time ago, sorry I'm not more help!! I think you could pull it off, my friend did something like it for a party. I'd just do it as soon as possible to the time you serve. Maybe try putting paper or something under it so it doesn't melt into the frosting? That might ruin the look/just being able to eat the cupcake though.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the wonderful support!!
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOVE THIS!! You did a wonderful job! I FEATURED you on my blog today! and linked it back to ya! http://keepinitthriftyandrea.blogspot.com/2012/03/all-things-dr-seuss.html
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for cute recipes for my son's first birthday, which will be Dr. Seuss themed. This is so clever! I'll be sure to give you credit, people will definitely want to know where I got the idea. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I did a lot of, it is very fast. It was a long time ago, I'm sorry I have no more to help! !I think you can do it, my friend made a like to party. I'll do it as soon as possible time you serve. Maybe try to paper or similar things in it so it won't melt to frost? This may damage appearance/just can eat cake though. cheap Hockey Jerseys
ReplyDeleteLoved this idea! So I had to include it in this month's First Birthday Theme Idea - http://incredibleinfant.com/first-birthday/dr-seuss-birthday-party-ideas/ Brilliance always deserves an audience - hope I can help build yours! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so
ReplyDeleteMuch for including the after picture! I think these are adorable, but if I prepped too far in advance and they melted I think I would have cried!
